For the last 40 years, no one has traveled Colorado like John Fielder, who has photographed the state from its rolling plains to the soaring Rocky Mountains and the Western Slope’s remote plateaus and river canyons.
A nationally renowned photographer, teacher, environmentalist, and author of A Colorado Winter, Fielder will be speaking on the Colorado State University campus on Nov. 16 at 7 p.m. His appearance is part of the Evening with an Author Series presented by Morgan Library.
This event, held in the Lory Student Center Theatre, is free and open to the public, with seating on a first-come, first-served basis. The doors open at 6:30 p.m. All of Fielder’s most popular books and calendars will be for sale and signing before and after the presentation.
Fielder has been capturing the beauty of Colorado for four decades. From majestic sunrises over the Rockies to colorful video of Colorado wildflowers bordering alpine lakes, his photos portray the Centennial State in all its glory. All but four of his books have been about Colorado, and he might be best known for creating the state’s best-selling book ever: Colorado: 1870-2000, which juxtaposes historic images of the 19th-century landscape with those taken 130 years later.
For his tireless efforts to promote the protection of Colorado’s open space and wildlands, Fielder has won awards such as the Sierra Club’s Ansel Adams Award and the Aldo Leopold Foundation’s first Achievement Award given to an individual. His breathtaking pictures have influenced not only people, but also conservation legislation as well.
