Media advisory: School is Cool 2018 set to begin

For the 27th consecutive year, Colorado State University volunteers will stuff backpacks with school supplies for Poudre School District K-12 students. This year, the School is Cool program will distribute more than 2,500 backpacks to students in need.

WHEN: Supplies will be delivered and sorted from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 7. Backpacks will be stuffed with school supplies from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 8. The majority of the backpacks will be distributed to Poudre School District schools from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 8 and Thursday, Aug. 9.

WHERE: Johnson Hall, Room 222 on the Colorado State University campus. Johnson Hall is directly east of the Administration Building on East Drive.

DETAILS: More than 2,500 backpacks will be filled with grade-specific supplies, including pens, paper, folders and more, for distribution to PSD schools. The filled backpacks will be delivered to elementary, middle and high school principals and counselors, who determine the recipients. Families interested in obtaining School Is Cool supplies should contact their home school directly. Backpacks are not available through CSU. This year’s effort is supported by generous donations from the CSU community with contributions from the CSU Bookstore and Bohemian Foundation. Since 1992, School is Cool has provided supplies to nearly 46,000 local students.
