This might be the most Colorado thing you’ll see this year: Renowned outdoor photographer John Fielder will present a narrated slide show of images from his latest book, with accompaniment by one of northern Colorado’s favorite guitar virtuosos, Dave Beegle – on the Colorado State University campus.
And there’s a twist. The 230 photos in Colorado Black on White are all black-and-white images, edited from Fielder’s 40-year career, depicting dramatic mountain reflections and wildlife, 19th-century mine building facades and ancestral Puebloan ruins, the Great Plains and the Western Slope. Through the magic of technology, the slide show will allow viewers to watch these iconic images change from their original vibrant color to black, white and shades of gray, revealing the shapes, textures, lines, and edges of this most scenic of states as never before.
Fielder and Beegle will appear in the Lory Student Center Theater Thursday, Nov. 15, at 7 p.m., as part of the Morgan Library Evening with an Author Series. The event is free and open to the public, no tickets or reservations required, seating on a first-come, first-served basis; doors open at 6:30 p.m. The presentation will be followed by a book sale and signing reception hosted by Odell Brewing Company.
As part of his narration, Fielder will tell stories of his life on the wilderness trail as well as from Colorado’s fascinating history, provide tips on how to make your own outstanding photographs, and provide specific directions to some of the state’s most beautiful locales.
Beegle has been making Colorado music for more than four decades, both as a solo artist and with groups such as the Fourth Estate and his current project, the Jurassicasters. A highly versatile and melodic player, he has released 11 CDs, a live concert DVD, has been involved in hundreds of recordings as a session guitarist, producer and engineer, and appears in venues up and down the Front Range, playing both electric and acoustic sets.
This Evening with an Author is presented by Morgan Library, Friend of Morgan Library, Poudre River Public Library District, Poudre River Friends of the Library, KUNC FM, The Liggett Family Endowment, Hilton Fort Collins, and Odell Brewing.
