The latest installment of the history of Colorado State University, CSU’s Sense of Place: A Campus History of Colorado’s Land-Grant University, is now available at the CSU Bookstore in the Lory Student Center.

To celebrate its publication, authors James E. Hansen II, professor emeritus and university historian, and Gordon Hazard of Morgan Library’s University Archives and Special Collections will be at the Bookstore Dec. 5, 4-6:30 p.m., with signed copies for sale.

CSU’s Sense of Place, also co-authored by professor and archivist Linda Meyer, is the third volume that examines the founding and growth of Colorado State. Hansen published Democracy’s College in 1977 and Democracy’s University in 2007.

While those books traced the roots and development of the University as an institution, the latest work looks at the physical evolution of CSU through six chronological eras; five campuses; and nearly all structures, landscaping features, and property acquisitions related to the school’s existence, from the Claim Shanty erected in 1874 to Canvas Stadium and other 21st-century buildings at CSU. Replete with numerous photos and maps, it provides a detailed visual reference to the physical heritage of campus.

CSU’s Sense of Place is available at the Bookstore and online for $42.99. Through December, Democracy’s University is on sale for only $20, at the Bookstore and online; Hansen will sign copies of both books Dec. 5.

The signing event is part of the Bookstore’s annual Employee Appreciation Night, which will also offer a wealth of family-friendly activities, prizes and giveaways for members of the Ram Family.

Parking for the Lory Student Center is available in Lot 425, accessible on Pitkin Street from Shields Street. See the interactive campus map at maps.colostate.edu for parking and location of the Lory Student Center.
