Texas Tribune journalist Julián Aguilar will speak about issues at the U.S.-Mexico border, how we got to this situation, and future challenges he foresees, on the Colorado State University campus Sept. 19 at 4 p.m.

The talk, in the Cherokee Park Ballroom of the Lory Student Center and hosted by CSU’s Office of International Programs, is free and open to the public, no registration required.

Aguilar reports on politics, U.S.-Mexico border affairs, immigration reform and enforcement as well as other related topics for the Tribune. He also recently covered the mass shooting at an El Paso Walmart, now classified by federal law enforcement as “an act of domestic terrorism.” He will discuss his firsthand experiences along the border at CSU.

Over the past decade, the complex tangle of immigration reform and U.S. border security has received increased public scrutiny and media coverage. With shifts like changes in asylum laws and indefinite separation of immigrant children and families, immigration reform continues to be a controversial political topic, and an ever-present public policy issue.
