Body image

Jennifer Ogle

Ogle researches media influences on appearance and self, body image and satisfaction, appearance socialization, and feminist theories of the body.

Ogle, graduate program coordinator in the Department of Design and Merchandising, teaches classes on topics such as social, psychological and cultural aspects of dress and appearance, as well as research and theory in design and merchandising.

Ogle’s main research interests include body image and satisfaction, appearance socialization, dress and appearance experiences of marginalized populations and apparel and merchandising as a vehicle for girls’ STEM education.

Ogle has been honored six times by the International Textiles and Apparel Association with Paper of Distinction Awards, and in 2018 with the Outstanding Scholarship Article Award from the Journal of Family and Consumer Sciences.

Ogle received her M.S. from the University of Illinois, and her B.S. and Ph.D. from Iowa State University.
