Belisle, co-director of the Center of Excellence for Metabolism of Infectious Diseases at Colorado State University, focuses on the biochemistry of bacterial pathogens that cause tuberculosis, leprosy and Lyme disease, and how these bacteria interact with the hosts.

His research has led to discovery of diagnostic and vaccine antigens and the definition of specific molecular interactions involving the innate immune response. Most recently, Belisle has investigated host metabolic responses to identify biochemical pathways altered in response to bacterial infection and disease, and to apply this approach to identify novel biomarkers and biosignatures of disease progression and treatment outcome.

Belisle is recipient of the prestigious Monfort Professorship and the CSU Scholarship Impact Award. His research collaboration on Lyme disease with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention was awarded the James H. Nakano Citation and CO-LABS 2018 Governor’s Award for High Impact Research.

Belisle earned his B.S. and Ph.D. from Colorado State University.
