Nick Marx is an associate professor in the Department of Communication Studies. His work focuses on television, digital media culture, media industries, mediated representations of race and ethnicity, comedy, satire and American politics. He is co-editor or author of three books: Saturday Night Live and American TV (Indiana University Press, 2013), The Comedy Studies Reader (University of Texas Press, 2018) and Sketch Comedy: Identity, Reflexivity, and American Television (Indiana University Press, 2019). Marx’s commentary on popular culture and politics has appeared in Time, Entertainment Weekly and U.S. News & World Report.
Marx received his B.A. in communication arts and Spanish from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2003. He earned his M.A. in radio-television-film from the University of Texas at Austin in 2006, and then returned to the University of Wisconsin-Madison, earning his Ph.D. in communication arts in 2012.
