Pete Seel is a professor in the Department of Journalism and Technical Communication. His research and teaching focuses on telecommunication, new media technologies, digital television, and documentary history and production. Seel was awarded the CSU Office of International Programs Distinguished Service Award in 2012 and the Department of Communication Studies Outstanding Mentor Award in 2011. His book, Digital Universe: The Global Telecommunication Revolution, was named a top ten percent selection of all scholarly books of 2012 by Choice Outstanding Academic Title, a publishing unit of the Association of College and Research Libraries.
Seel received his B.F.A. in Photography and Filmmaking from the San Francisco Art Institute in 1975. He earned his M.A. in Educational Technology from San Francisco State University in 1979 and his Ph.D. in Mass Communication from Indiana University, Bloomington in 1995. Seel is a member of several professional organizations, including the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication, the Association of Internet Researchers, the Broadcast Education Association, and the International Visual Literacy Association.
