Soo Kang

Soo Kang is a researcher in the field of hospitality and tourism. Her research primarily focuses on consumer behavior, tourism impacts and global tourism marketing. In addition to her primary areas of focus, she has also conducted research on the topic of cannabis tourism and its effects in Colorado. She received the Excellence Research Award from the Resort and Commercial Recreation Association in 2019 in recognition of this work.

Kang is a certified hospitality educator (CHE) and has worked as a program coordinator in the Hospitality and Event Management Program. She has had the privilege of teaching at the Semester at Sea twice as a Global Teaching Scholar (GTS). Additionally, she leads a two-week summer study abroad program in Thailand every year.

Soo Kang has also authored several book chapters, including one on casino gambling in Colorado and South Dakota for the 2009 publication “The History of Gambling in America,” and another on “Medical Marijuana Tourism: A Case of Colorado” in 2022.

Kang’s research has been published in over 55 referred journal publications in top-tier hospitality and tourism journals, such as Tourism Management, Journal of Hospitality and Tourism Research, Journal of Travel and Tourism Marketing, Leisure Studies, and International Journal of Event and Festival Management.
