Wes Kenney is a professor in the Department of Music, Theater, and Dance and the director of orchestras. He conducts the CSU Symphony and Chamber Orchestra, as well as CSU Opera productions. He is one of the founders of the CSU Summer Master’s Degree program in conducting.
Kenney holds several other prominent positions in the community, including music director of the Denver Young Artists Orchestra, music director of the Fort Collins Symphony, and music director of Opera Fort Collins. In 1992, Kenney was awarded the Carmen Dragon Conducting Prize, and he was named the 2009 Outstanding Teacher by the Colorado American String Teachers Association. Kenney won the Grand Prize at the Summer 2007 Varna International Conducting Competition in Bulgaria.
Kenney holds a B.A. in music from the University of Southern California and a master’s in conducting from San Francisco State University. He has experience directing the orchestra pit for ballet, opera, and musical theater, and has guest-directed for various companies including the Virginia Symphony, the New Mexico All-State Orchestra, and the Buffalo Philharmonic.
