Forestry Fair to Offer Logging Sports Demos, Fire Engine Tours

Note to Reporters: The Foresty Fair is a free event and will include logging sports demonstrations, wildland firefighting equipment displays and children’s activities. Members of the media and the public are invited to attend.

The Colorado State Forest Service, the Warner College of Natural Resources at Colorado State University and other local and federal agencies will host the 2011 Forestry Fair from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 17, at the CSU Foothills Campus. The event, which celebrates the International Year of Forests, is free to the public and will feature logging sports demonstrations, forestry and firefighting equipment displays, career exploration, educational sessions, children’s activities and the latest innovations in forest products.

“Northern Colorado students, families and anyone with an interest in our forests is invited to come explore the exciting field of forestry,” said Jamie Dahl, CSFS experiential learning coordinator. “We want everyone to be aware of the importance of forest and wildfire management in the conservation of resources that we all share, including water, wildlife, recreation and wood.”

The Forestry Fair will include demonstrations by the CSU Logging Sports Team, tours of the CSFS Fire Equipment Shop, fire ecology demonstrations and puppet tree shows for kids. High school and college students interested in forestry and natural resources careers also will have a chance to talk to professionals about prospective career paths.

The free event will take place at the CSFS facilities on the Colorado State University Foothills Campus, 3843 LaPorte Ave., Fort Collins. Other partners include the U.S. Forest Service, City of Fort Collins, Larimer County Department of Natural Resources, Front Range Community College, Colorado Parks and Wildlife, National Park Service and others.
