“The particulars of the candidates’ backgrounds will probably matter to some voters,” said John Straayer, a political scientist at Colorado State University, “but I think the prominence of the race for a lot of voters is smothered by all the publicity over this very strange governor’s race that we’ve had, the activities of the Tea Party and the general voter unrest that is extant out there in this election cycle.”
