“The basic reason for the late change is the nice, warm weather we have been experiencing,” said Bob Sturtevant, a forestry specialist with the Colorado State University Extension Service. “The leaves change due to a combination of the shorter periods of sunlight and a cooling of the weather. Although we did have a couple of wet, cool days a few weeks ago, mainly it has been warm and dry.”
