Clouds involve a tremendous range of physical scales. Storm systems for example, can span ranges of hundreds of kilometers. The particles that form in the physical clouds are well below our visible range of seeing things, says Paul DeMott, a research scientist in the Department of Atmospheric Science at Colorado State University.
