To be considered, the women during their lifetime must have made significant contributions to their field, elevated the status of women, helped open new frontiers for women, and inspired others by their example. The contemporary honorees are:
• Diana Wall is the founding director of the School of Global Environmental Sustainability at Colorado State University and an international authority on the structure and function of soil ecosystems. She spent more than 25 seasons conducting research at Antarctica, where a valley has been named for her.
