“Combining these two objectives of providing public access and protecting species in protected areas really requires an assumption that the two goals are compatible for protected lands,” said Sarah Reed, a conservation scientist at the Wildlife Conservation Society and a faculty affiliate at Colorado State University. “I would argue that is an assumption that to date has been largely untested, with a few notable examples.”
