Kristen Hemphill has won Mountain West Conference titles and competed in NCAA regional and national championships in both cross country and track. She set CSU records in the indoor 3,000 meters last year and in the 3,000 steeplechase her first time out this spring. But she reached a whole new level of achievement when she knocked another six seconds off the steeplechase record a little more than two weeks ago. Her time of 10 minutes, 2.59 seconds was the second-fastest by an American woman and third-fastest in the world so far this year.
