Stephens watched the launch of the Boeing Delta 2 rocket from a viewing site about two miles from the Vandenberg Air Force Based launch pad in California. Dense fog and low clouds rolled in about five minutes before the 4:02 a.m. MDT launch, blocking Stephens’ view of the long-awaited liftoff. In the end, the rocket that launched two cloud-studying satellites was obscured by clouds.
