Gary Smith, who holds the Monfort Endowed Chair of Agriculture with the animal science department at CSU, said he was approached several months ago by Rich Vesta, the former president of Packerland in Green Bay, Wis. Vesta joined JBS after the purchase of the Smithfield Beef Group, of which Packerland had become a part.
