“There will be populations that persist in better protected areas, assuming poachers do not target them,” Wittemyer said. “Elephants aren’t going to go extinct. We’re going to lose about three-quarters of the populations. … All nations need to get behind this. The key is breaking demand for ivory in China and other nations.”
