Colorado State University’s Department of Atmospheric Science, one of the nation’s leading storm forecasters, predicts nine hurricanes – and 17 named storms altogether – for 2006 . The 2005 season was the most active on record, with 27 named storms, including 14 hurricanes, three of which were a Category 3 or higher.
