Jason Smith’s sixth season in the NBA ended Wednesday, even though it’s actually been over for several months. Smith, a center for the New Orleans Pelicans, hasn’t played since Jan. 15 because of a loose piece of cartilage in his right knee. He had surgery on the knee in January and is expected to be fully recovered for next season. Smith, who played at Colorado State University from 2004-07, started 27 of 31 games before he was hurt.
