Reports linking hurricanes to climate change have drawn fire from other researchers who believe that storm occurrence is driven by a natural, decades-long cycle of high and low hurricane activity in the Atlantic. Hurricane forecaster William Gray of Colorado State University is a leading proponent of this natural-variability viewpoint. He calls the new study’s conclusions “ridiculous.”
