The Denver Post calls him “one of the most renowned prophets of hurricane doom.” Colorado State University meteorologist William Gray told the paper Monday that “this country is going to see hurricane destruction like we’ve never seen it in the past. Up until 2003, we’ve been lucky.” Gray, 75, says the Atlantic Ocean is in a period of heightened hurricane activity that began in 1995 and may not end until 2020 or 2025. “We have a great hurricane problem facing this country, and people don’t realize it,” Gray said.
