With a new hurricane season starting on June 1, the Gulf Coast again faces the threat of major storms. The probability of at least one major hurricane reaching landfall in the area during the new season is 47 percent, compared to a 30 percent average for the last century, say scientists at the Department of Atmospheric Science at Colorado State University.
