The state has the nation’s third-largest space-based economy, with 164,500 space-industry-related jobs just in the private sector. NASA contracts brought Colorado businesses $337 million in fiscal 2005. The University of Colorado, Colorado State University and facilities such as the Boulder-based National Center for Atmospheric Research also receive NASA money for Earth-science research.
