There’s a 69 percent chance the East Coast will be struck by a major Category 3 hurricane, like that of 1821, with winds of at least 111 mph — more than double the usual odds of 31 percent, according to researchers at Colorado State University who have successfully predicted Atlantic hurricane activity for years.
