National parks doing double duty as nature’s labs

Scientists say the intact ecosystems and landscapes are natural laboratories. “If the country were a museum, the national parks would be the exhibits,” said forest ecologist Dan Kashian of Colorado State University-Fort Collins. “The national parks are where you go when you want to work in an environment that is relatively free of human disturbance.”
