Chet Moore, a field biologist and ecologist with Colorado State University in Fort Collins, said he believes environmental conditions may contribute to whether an area has a bad year or a good year with West Nile virus. Yet North America has so little experience with the virus that it remains difficult to anticipate what will happen, he said.
