Now an associate professor of animal science at Colorado State University who earned a Ph.D. from the University of Illinois, Grandin has created a cottage industry out of her understanding of animals’ sensory abilities. She has for decades designed livestock handling facilities that reduce stress on the animals and estimates that almost half of the cattle in North America are now handled in a restrainer system she created.
