“Kochia is a very unusual weed,” said Phil Westra, weed scientist at Colorado State University who has studied kochia for 25 years. “It is a C4 plant (like corn) that is very efficient at fixing carbon and those plants usually grow well in warm climates but kochia not only grows well in warm weather, it has a high tolerance for cold temperatures well below freezing, too.”
