The Atlantic Basin hurricane season runs from June through November, with September often the most active month. There have been 13 named storms in the Atlantic region this year, according to the U.S. National Weather Service in Miami. That compares with a 50-year average of 9.6 named storms for an entire season, according to researchers at Colorado State University.
