Many have speculated magnesium chloride used on snowy roads could be harmful, but turns out a milder mix of salt and sand called sodium chloride is used on Highway 105. The Colorado Department of Transportation said it’s been that way for years. The state forest service said Colorado State University is doing a study to see if that could be the problem.
