According to my long-time friend and colleague, Dr. Phil Klotzbach at Colorado State University, if we extend the search back to 1960, and change the requirement to just no hurricanes during August, then the list broadens to include four additional years: 1961, 1982, 1988, and 1997, for a total of seven analogs.
